Non-alcoholic malt beverages sit in a commercially attractive space: they carry the flavour cues and premium pricing of beer without excise licensing, state-level liquor regulation or the distribution restrictions that come with alcohol. Two routes exist. The extract route blends bought-in malt extract with water, hops flavour, sugar and CO₂ — low capex, fast to market, and how most Indian entrants start. The brewing route mashes and boils actual malt then arrests fermentation, giving a far better product at substantially higher capex. This plant is offered in both configurations, sharing the same carbonation, pasteurisation and filling back-end so an extract-route plant can be upgraded later.

Do I need a liquor licence for non-alcoholic malt beverage?+
Products below the non-alcoholic threshold are regulated as food beverages under FSSAI rather than as alcohol, but state rules vary and some states impose additional conditions on beer-style labelling. Confirm your specific state position before finalising branding.
Extract route or brewing route?+
Start with extract if speed to market matters — capex is a fraction and the product is acceptable. Move to brewing when you are competing on taste against imported non-alcoholic beers, where the difference is obvious to consumers.
